Perbedaan host id dan host name

 Host id adalah IP Address yang dapat digunakan untuk client/user ataupun byte setelah byte-byte dari Network ID pada sebuah alamat network, yang menunjukkan host itu sendiri.

Host ID digunakan untuk menunjukkan suatu host dalam jaringan. Setiap antarmuka jaringan harus memiliki host ID yang unik.
Sedangkan,  

Hostname. Nama  host atau hostname adalah nama komputer. Pemberian nama ini spesifik, untuk satu komputer tertentu saja dalam suatu jaringan. Untuk mengecek hostname di windows XP bisa menekan tombol "LogoWindows+PauseBreak", kemudian klik tab Computer Name.
